Bristol Rugby Club West Stand

The new stand replaced a condemned old timber structure on a confined site on the west side of the rugby pitch at the Memorial Ground, Bristol. It provides standing terraces close to the touchline, debenture seating with hospitality facilities at the first floor, and hospitality boxes with viewing balconies at second floor level. Central in the roof is a press and TV camera balcony. Club accommodation at ground floor includes changing rooms for teams and officials, medical, laundry, storerooms and spectator toilets.  It was designed to achieve very good spectator visibility (C values) to the near touch line for all spectators. This generated the building section, whereby the top floor cantilevers over the terraces, with the supporting columns along the concourse behind the debenture seating.

As well as the new stand, DKA drew up a strategy for the overall development of the Memorial Ground, to set the new building within a context of continuing improvement to the ground facilities and provision for safety of spectators.
