The need for additional primary school places in the Bishopston and Ashley Down areas of Bristol has been increasing in recent years. DKA were commissioned to design a new 210 place primary school as an annex to the popular and successful Ashley Down Primary School, on a vacant plot of land next to Gloucestershire County Cricket Club. Constrained by adjoining houses, the cricket ground and the City of Bristol College, a two storey solution was adopted.
Following completion of the 210 place school, DKA were subsequently instructed to extend it to 420 places. The extension was made possible by the purchase of additional land originally ear-marked for housing, which now provides additional play space and MUGA.
The project was procured through Bristol Local Education Partnership (LEP) part of Bristol’s Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme. DKA were appointed by Skanska Construction, the LEP’s supply chain partner.
