The purpose of this as yet unbuilt project was to replace the existing Clevedon Community Hospital with a more up to date facility. Services would have included a 24 bed inpatients ward, outpatients department, X-ray, therapies and minor injuries unit. A multi-purpose counselling suite would also provide meeting spaces accessible to the local community. Provision for accommodating mobile diagnostics vehicles was made in the design.
The brownfield site was a former supermarket in a residential area of Clevedon, located close to bus routes, cycle paths and footpaths. The building form was designed to create a welcoming public entrance piazza on one side, with a more private patient garden courtyard on the other, with the two external spaces linked by an internal double height atrium.
