This new school building provides 35 places for children with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties (BESD) with the aim of providing them with a level of achievement that will enable them to live and look after themselves independently. It is a 2 storey building with a ‘Y’ shaped plan that takes advantage of a sloping site to separate the main building access from outdoor facilities. DKA provided executive architectural services to Kier Western, design and construct contractors, to take the South Gloucestershire Council concept design through to completion. The façade features facing brickwork, coloured flat panels, aluminium curtain walling, windows and doors.
Facilities include a multipurpose hall, teaching areas for science, design and food technology, art, music, construction and motor vehicle workshops and rooms for dining, cooking, staff and visiting support staff. External facilities include a multi-use games area, cycle track, greenhouse, herb garden and outdoor dining area.
