New single storey teaching block ‘The Diamond Building’ includes a library, six classrooms and additional services area for Trafalgar School at Downton, situated in a sensitive rural setting.
The new building is an extension to the existing technology block with a glazed link to allow continuous internal circulation throughout the school. Closely integrated within the built form of the main school, similar materials have been used to reduce the prominence of the building in its setting. The walls are mainly brick and the roof is tiled to match the existing school buildings with grey colour coated aluminium window frames, panels and gutters.
The location of the Diamond Building in relation to the existing buildings creates a new landscaped courtyard, forming a valuable social space, and an important external focus for the school.
