Community

Encouraging and supporting the next generation

A key part of our mission is to inspire and train the architects of the future. From offering highly practical work experience placements for secondary school pupils to working with University of Bath students via the RIBA Student Mentoring Scheme and DKA Award for Digital Illustration, our dedicated team of architects relish the opportunity to support and encourage the next generation and the local community.

Over the years, we’ve opened our studio doors to over 50 secondary school work experience students from across the South West community. On top of this, our architects engage hundreds more young people each year through the ‘DKA Industry Day’ at Sheldon School in Chippenham – an annual event that aims to introduce students to architecture as a profession.

We’ve run workshops for primary school children at the Bath Literature Festival and members of our team continue to attend mock career interviews days and industry awareness focus groups at St. Gregory’s School in Bath each year, which offers practical, career-led advice to 14-16-year-old pupils.

We’ve enjoyed working in partnership with the University of Bath each year since 2005 to stage the ‘DKA award for Digital Illustration’ and remain impressed by the standard of inventiveness and creativity that is displayed by the students. Our architects also offer mentoring to second year students at the University of Bath as part of the RIBA Student Mentoring Scheme which introduces students to life in a busy architectural office before they embark on their first period of work placement.
