100 Temple Street

Welcoming & Inclusive Design Update

DKA worked with Bristol City Council (BCC) to make several improvements to their offices at 100 Temple Street. Post-pandemic, and largely due to an increased level of working from home, BCC found that they were under-utilising their existing spaces and now only occupy the south wing of 100 Temple St, a large four-storey office block in central Bristol owned by the council. We were approached by BCC to help them deliver works required as a result of a recent accessibility audit and to design a new reception area to both provide a more welcoming environment for their staff, and increase the desirability of the remaining office spaces for new tenants.

Works so far have included:

  • Improvements to the rear car park
  • Conversion of an existing lift to allow full building access for users of motorised wheelchairs.
  • Re-provision of refreshment points impacted by lift works.
  • Redecoration and upgrade of refreshment points to vacant office space.
  • External works to improve accessibility to the building.
  • Assistance with refurbishment to welfare facilities.
  • Creation of a smart new reception area, providing staff and visitors with a fitting entrance to the building.

Uniting to Enhance Efficiency

In addition to our work for Bristol City Council, DKA supported the NHS in their relocation to the vacant wing of 100 Temple Street, helping to consolidate multiple offices and improve operational efficiency. Our involvement included a thorough audit of existing NHS offices and the development of new workspace layouts that maximised the use of existing furniture, minimising waste.

Key elements of the project included:

  • Relocation of Seven NHS Organisations: We facilitated the relocation of seven NHS organisations from two separate offices in Bristol, enabling them to combine resources, improve operational efficiency, and reduce rental costs.
  • Workspace Optimisation: Our team carefully analysed and redesigned the existing office spaces, focusing on the best use of available furniture and creating a functional and efficient layout. We also incorporated additional meeting rooms to meet the specific needs of each organisation.
  • Reimagining the Workplace: For one organisation, we guided a comprehensive review of their workplace requirements, helping them create a layout and select furniture that supports collaboration, remote working, and privacy needs.

Through this project, DKA helped the NHS enhance functionality, reduce waste, and create adaptable, collaborative environments while streamlining costs and improving efficiency.
